Ticket Resale & Scam Guide

Buy and sell World Cup 2026 tickets safely. Know the rules, avoid the scams.

Official FIFA Resale Platform ONLY

FIFA operates its own official ticket resale platform. This is the ONLY authorized way to buy or sell World Cup tickets on the secondary market. Tickets purchased through any other channel (StubHub, Viagogo, etc.) may be cancelled without refund.

What happens with unauthorized resale tickets:

  • FIFA can cancel tickets sold through unauthorized platforms
  • You may be denied entry at the stadium with NO refund
  • StubHub/Viagogo cannot guarantee FIFA will honor their tickets
  • The original buyer can reclaim transferred tickets on some platforms

Common Scam Patterns

Too-Good-To-Be-True Prices

Scammers offer tickets well below face value to create urgency. If a group stage ticket is "only $30" β€” it is fake.

Red Flags:

Prices significantly below face value

Claims of "last minute" or "emergency sale"

No proof of original purchase

Social Media Sellers

Fake sellers on Instagram, Twitter/X, Facebook, and Reddit offering tickets with no verification or recourse if scammed.

Red Flags:

New or low-follower accounts

Request for payment via Zelle, Venmo, or crypto

Pressure to pay quickly before "someone else buys"

Duplicate Tickets

Scammers sell the same ticket to multiple buyers. Only the first person to scan the barcode gets in β€” the rest are turned away.

Red Flags:

Seller refuses to transfer via official FIFA platform

PDF or screenshot tickets (not transferred officially)

Multiple listings with same seat/section

Fake Ticket Websites

Professional-looking websites that mimic FIFA or official resale platforms but steal your money and personal information.

Red Flags:

URL does not match official FIFA domain

No HTTPS/padlock or suspicious certificate

Requests unusual payment methods

Street Sellers at Venues

Scalpers outside stadiums selling printed tickets or wristbands. These are almost always counterfeit or already used.

Red Flags:

Physical tickets sold outside the venue

No way to verify authenticity before paying

Cash-only transactions

Phishing Emails

Emails claiming to be from FIFA offering ticket sales, lotteries, or upgrades. These steal your login credentials and payment info.

Red Flags:

Email address does not end in @fifa.org

Links to non-FIFA websites

Requests your FIFA account password

Safety Checklist

ONLY buy from the official FIFA ticket platform or authorized resale

NEVER buy tickets via social media, Craigslist, or messaging apps

NEVER pay via cryptocurrency, wire transfer, or gift cards

Verify the ticket transfer appears in your official FIFA account

Check that seat numbers and match details are correct

Be suspicious of sellers who refuse video calls or identity verification

Research the seller's history if buying from any third party

If it seems too good to be true β€” it IS too good to be true

What to Do If You've Been Scammed

1

Document everything

Save all messages, emails, screenshots, transaction records, and the seller's profile/contact info.

2

Contact your bank/payment provider

Initiate a chargeback if you paid by credit card. PayPal and some banks offer buyer protection. Act within 60-120 days.

3

Report to FIFA

Use the official FIFA contact channels to report unauthorized ticket sales.

4

Report to local authorities

File a police report, especially if the amount is significant. This may be needed for insurance claims.

5

Report the seller on the platform

Report the seller's profile on whatever platform they used (social media, marketplace, etc.).

6

Warn others

Share your experience on fan forums and social media to prevent others from being scammed by the same seller.

Stay Safe, Buy Smart

The only guaranteed way to get legitimate World Cup tickets is through FIFA's official platform. Do not trust any other source, no matter how convincing they appear.
